Ssamssik
Based in Hong Kong, Ssamssik has spent much of his life following curiosity wherever it happened to lead.
After nearly a decade living, studying, and working in London, he returned to Hong Kong to begin his career as an electrical engineer. Later, he found himself drawn in a different direction and moved into the diving industry, where he continues to work today. Rather than following a carefully planned path, his journey has unfolded through a series of unexpected turns, new experiences, and a willingness to embrace the unknown.
Photography has accompanied him throughout much of that journey. Since picking up his first Kodak camera at the age of fourteen, he has spent nearly five decades photographing places, people, and landscapes encountered along the way.
Ssamssik does not consider himself an artist in the traditional sense. To him, photography is simply a way of paying attention. Free from the expectations of professional practice, his approach remains instinctive, unpretentious, and rooted in curiosity. Whether travelling across distant landscapes or exploring beneath the sea, he continues to photograph with the same openness that first led him to pick up a camera all those years ago.
