Ruilin Li Artist Profile Image_edited.jpg

Ruilin Li is a London-based photographer and artist, born in Guangdong, China. She received her Bachelor of Arts from Camberwell College of Arts and is currently pursuing an MA in Contemporary Photography: Practices and Philosophies at Central Saint Martins. Her practice centers on analogue photography and installation, with particular expertise in silver gelatin darkroom printing and traditional photographic techniques. At the same time, she continuously experiments with diverse physical processes and materials, fostering cross-disciplinary dialogues between mediums and materials.

Her work begins with an inquiry into the essence of experimental photography in the darkroom, expanding from questions of indexicality, material traces, and the observation of space and time, which in turn generate a diversity of artistic forms. Within the framework of media ontology, she translates the physical interactions between mediums into metaphorical expressions, engaging with perception and philosophical reflection in specific contexts. In recent years, her research and practice have extended into sculpture and installation, seeking to address contemporary artistic discourse through a broader range of mediums.
